Yevgeny Dushko, mayor of Sergiyev Posad, located about 50km north of Moscow, was shot outside his home this Monday. Investigators believe his murder was a contract killing that may be related to corruption accusations he made against local officials and businessmen.
According to the local administration, Dushko had made efforts to reduce corruption in communal services during his government. A month ago, he denounced corruption in the city on a local television channel.
