Prime Minister Peter O’Neill (pictured here) has launched an investigation regarding allegations of misapplication of development funds in the National Planning and Monitoring Deparment.
The investigation was motivated by data revealing that earlier this year the department issued payments that reached over AU$ 820 million in less than three months. A team of public servants and lawyers will review all payments to individuals and service providers, in order to identify if there was any undue expenditure.
Additionally, a AU$ 4 million payment for the purchase of planes and a AU$ 54 million transfer from the National Superannuate Fund (NASFUND) to the District of Kokopo will be investigated.
