Public Integrity Index: 8.34

Japan has long enjoyed a very good control of corruption compared to its region, although less so against countries in its income group. It does very well on judicial independence and press freedom, but could do with more fiscal transparency and transparency in general, in particular in the sensitive area of business-politics ties.
