Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is a patrimonial state, whose leader has not changed in decades and is probably the richest main in the country. There is no freedom of the press, although a significant number of e-citizens. However, it made some serious effort to be business friendly, rewarded with high scores in the Global Competitiveness Report. The past decade, however, has shown the limitations of this policy, with the country stagnating on good governance, in particular on fiscal transparency and conflict of interest. There is still some room for progress on quality of bureaucracy within the limited frame of impunity culture for regime officials, but given the strategic advantages the country enjoys internationally it is rather unlikely much progress will be made in the future.
