North Macedonia has been a world champion of good governance regulation due to its EU accession process. At the same time, it did not prevent it from being a fully captured state until very recently. While the country seems to have returned to democracy, with only the lack of autonomy of the judiciary reflecting the past, it has probably one of the largest implementation gaps when good governance is concerned. The new regime will face the challenge of depoliticizing the public agencies (both from the political nature of the previous regime and going forward). High e-citizenship and the country’s international ambitions offer favourable grounds for the positive evolution to continue
